What can I do?

There are a great number of activities that each and every one of us can do to help win this university for the Southeast. We all have a part to play and no matter how small or how great your effort may be, it all counts! Below are a number of suggestions of activities that will ensure that the quest for a university is kept at the forefront of the minds who will ultimately make the decision.

  1. If you are unsure about the university or don't fully understand the need then read the "What it means to me" section of this site and hopefully this will convey the important and urgency of the university for everyone in the Southeast and not just the university workers.
  2. It can be as simple as talking to your family, friends, and neighbours about the university campaign. Ensure that you speak to people in shops while waiting for change or credit card transactions to complete. Get the buzz going!
  3. If you run a website or partake in online communities such as bulletin boards then why not include a logo of support for the campaign? Copy and paste the following code into your website or into your bulletin board user signature.

<a href="http://www.se4u.org" title="I support FUSE: Friends of the University for the South East - Are you a friend?"><img src="http://se4u.org/images/fuse-support.png" border="0" alt="I support FUSE: Friends of the University for the South East - Are you a friend?"/></a>

  4. You can write letters to local and national newspapers. Send letters to your local newspaper editors for publication in relevant sections. Also send your letters to the national press, e.g. the Irish Times and the Independent. This will help to highlight the desire and support for the university on the national stage.
  5. Write to and phone your local councillors. Councillors are there to represent you and your needs but many people never interact with them. Talking to your representatives about your desire for a university will ensure that they in-turn will talk to higher political figures and keep the pressure on at the political level. You can use our sample letters as a starting point.
  6. Write to the Minister for Education and your local TD's. Nothing will happen if the government think that people don't care. Highlight the issues - it's essential that cabinet ministers know that the pressure is mounting, all across the Southeast, for this university to be delivered. You can use our sample letters as a starting point.
  7. If you have the time and the passion, then get involved with the campaign directly. Everyone who either talks to their neighbour or who helps to raise funds for advertising is a member of this campaign but you can go that extra mile and really help to drive the enthusiasm from the inside if you are the kind of person that will not rest until the university is delivered.
