Official Statement from Dr. Martin Mansergh

March 18, 2008 – 12:24 pm

This weekend FUSE received an official statement from Dr. Martin Mansergh, TD for Tipperary South, showing his support for the university of the South East. In his statement, Dr. Mansergh draws attention to the progressive attitude of neighbouring countries such as Britain, toward catering for all regions equally, with universities. He refers to the benefit observed by the inclusion of a university within a region and that by British standards, (and by other international standards as testified to previously by Dr. Jim Port and Prof. Robin Farquhar), that WIT would be undoubtedly and unreservedly re-designated to a university for the South East region. 4. Indeed it is very good news to have another supporter of the University of the South East within the ranks of the cabinet. It is important at this stage that the campaign has political supporters within the government who are progressive thinkers and willing to put forward their thoughts on this matter. Hopefully we will see more good news in the near future.

  5. Dr. Mansergh has been known to me since 1982. I have admired his intellectual capacity to marshall the essentials surrounding any discussion or debate concerning the historical and current status of Irish identity. As author, scholar and advisor to many governments on the Northern Irish conflict, he has always illuminated his arguments by advancing them in the best interests of Ireland as a whole. I salute him as a latter day patriot. The New Ireland Group is honoured to have him address it following its 26th. A.G.M. on Saturday,31st., May, 2008.
